Persistance in Doing Good

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed

That I would see the goodness of the LORD

In the land of the living.

Wait (margin = Wait in faith) on the LORD;

Be of good courage,

And He shall strengthen your heart;

Wait, I say, on the LORD!

Psalm 27:13-14

Father in heaven, thank You for Your promises that our labour is not in vain and we will reap in due season if we don’t give up doing good.

Sometimes, though, the due season seems long overdue. We may have been praying for many years for loved ones to turn to you or for them to overcome alcoholism, an eating disorder, gambling, an addiction to drugs, pornography, self-harming or another destructive habit. We may have been working, waiting and praying for the restoration of a relationship, or for a dream You Yourself gave us to be fulfilled.

Now we are weary and the prospects of our hopes being fulfilled look bleak. Yet we hold fast to Your promises and Your faithfulness. We wait on You to refresh us with renewed courage, persistence and wisdom for our journey. We trust in You for You are our merciful God and we believe our times and the due season to see Your goodness are in Your hands.

We praise and thank You in Jesus’ name. Amen

Supporting Verses:

Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:9

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the LORD, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. Hebrews 10:23,36

But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD;

I say, “You are my God.”

My times are in Your hand;

Deliver me from the hand of my enemies,

And from those who persecute me.

Make Your face shine upon Your servant;

Save me for Your mercies’ sake.

Psalm 31:14-16
